Mary, the mother of Jesus, is venerated by Augustinians throughout the world under the title of “Mother of Good Counsel.” The devotion centers on Mary’s words to Jesus at the wedding at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5)

The image of Mary and Child was first discovered in 1467 in the church of St. Mary of Good Counsel located in Genazzano, Italy, not far outside of Rome. The Augustinians had taken custody of the church, then almost in ruins, in 1356. The church and the image are still under the care of the Augustinians and is an international center of pilgrimage
